what lights are you using in your canopy other than these? What type of fish/corals are you keeping in the tank? In all honesty I think it is better in the long run to not cut corners on your lighting for your tank. If you think that you may want to upgrade later then just save up the extra cash and buy what you want now. You will be much happier and won't have the extra equipment laying around later. Also these fixtures might not be suitable for use in the aquarium environment.

Just my two cents.

Yep I see three issues with grow lights.
1. Most likely not waterproof. Ive seen a few fires in make shift lights.
2. Wrong spectrum. Im sure they are on the low end of the spectrum, will give off a yellowish looking light.
3. They tend to run HOT and waste electricity.

4. The spectrum that grow lights provide is also the optimum spectrum for nuiscance algea growth. If you use these you will see a lot of hair and other pest algaes thrive, to the detriment of the rest of the tank.

Note: A grow light is good lighting for a refugium since it is the right lighting for plant life.

I agree with Aggiebrandon. You will be much happier, saving up for the lights you really want. If you tells us what you'd like, odds are we know the cheapest place to get it.
