T5's are high output bulbs that use less power and do not get as hot as MH. They come in a wide spectrum of colors. That is what I use on my 180, I have a 14 bulb unit.

There like the old standard T12 flourecent bulbs that were used in most shop lights/ office lighting. They're smaller in diameter. There is T12, T8, and T5. But another year and those will be old school too lol.

Whoa, twins? Double congrats...

LFS says your metal halides are old fashioned? Not so, they just want to sell you some very expensive LED's...

good luck,
Steve

just wondering what to power my tank with instead of the 400w 20k mh... toooooo hot...

what size tank is it? I just changed to MH's on my 75 gallon.

Simple choices are MH's, T5HO's, LED's, or Plasma.

LED's and Plasma can get real expensive on larger tanks. T5HO's do not penetrate as deep as MH's.

You'll b limiting urself by using T5HO's on tanks deeper than 18 inches.

Ditto on the double congrats! My twin boys are now 10, so I know the feeling. Luckily it is not really twice the work, but maybe 60% more than just one.

Hope this place does not end up like one of my other local websites. There are 7 set of twins, all in a core group of about 20-25 guys that frequent the website!
