Hello friends,

Thanks for all the service you provide. Alright then, here is my latest headache. My fish have started showing signs of ich. And this happened after I had placed every single new fish in QT and gave them FW dips. How sad is that. Anyways, this is my plan of action since the fish already have ich spots on them:

1) Take my fish out and give each a FW dip and then place them in the QT tank that has freshly purchased SW. Here I will treat them with QuickCure in reduced dosage for a few days.

2) Meanwhile, I will completely drain out the main tank and fill it up completely with FRESH WATER (This is my all out attack againt ich and I feel so happy). I will keep the tank with all the decorations/settings intact immersed in the fresh water for a couple of days. I will increase the temperature (may not matter but still).

Note: I have very little LR and 3 shrimps/crabs. I will move the LR and shrimp/crabs to a different bucket with air stone. I will keep the LR here for atleast 6 weeks or should it be more?.

3) After 1-2 days, I will drain the fresh water out and fill my main tank with SW again. I know I will have killed the beneficial bacteria, but atleast the ich and velvet (if any) and all other host of parasites will be gone...hopefully since this is like a FW dip for the entire tank.

Fish I have: 1 Yellow tail blue damsel, 1 black chromis, 1 Yellow watchman goby, 1 coral beauty angel, 2 percula clown, 1 cleaner shrimp, 2 peppermint shrimp.

Finally, I will introduce the fish in the main tank. I will not buy any new fish and I have Amquel, SW test kits along with BioSpira and LR (trusted source) to keep track of the new cycle that will begin and also to control any ammonia, nitrate/nitrite readings.

Any suggestions you have? Please please tell me that my main tank will be rid of all ich/velvet/parasites by giving it a FW bath as per my plan?????

Thanks for your help once again.

1.What size is your tank?
2.Do you have a skimmer?
3.How long has the tank been running?
4.How often do you do water change?

Sorry about replying so late.

@FISHSTICK: Tank is 45 gallon. No skimmer. Tank was up and running for 3 months. I water change and monitor water conditions all the time. No slacking in that.

@xmjxflipx: I am using QuickCure for now. Will let you know as soon as I start seeing some positive results.

For now this is my plan of action. My Min tank has been half filled with complete fresh water for 3 days. I will drain it and run dry for 1 full day.

Then I will try out hyposalinity treatment in the main tank and maintain salinity at 1.008-1.010 SG for 30-45 days.

Questions:
1) If I transfer the fish to the main tank, will hyposalinity kill off the ich as they fall from the fish?

2) How will it affect the new cycle and beneficial bacteria that will develop?

3) All my fish (6) are fine and healthy. But my coral beauty had big spots all over on saturday. The on sunday, it had smaller sized spots all over. Then today third day it again has large sized spots all over. Whats going on? Fish eating well and healthy.

(I will keep an eye on the water parameters and have all test kits etc)

i used a 10gal tank for quarantine with a small walmart filter with no carbon and an airstone, and then use these lifeguard tablets by instant ocean 5 day treatment! the only other thing i did was put a uv sterilizer on my main to kill the free swimming ich

OK, you don't have a skimmer so how often do you do water changes? I wouldn't use any medication. What are all you parameters? If they are eating well, they should be fine. If they stop eating then I would be worried.

i have read hyposalinity will work to kill off ich....you just have to slowly lower the SG and not do anything drastic.........
