Ok, I am in a pinch for an overflow.

I can't really afford to spend $60-$80 on an overflow box for my tank, but if I can find some blue or black acrylic, I'm pretty sure I could make it myself (maybe)
Anyone have any suggestions where I can get some acrylic?

Or if it comes down to it, maybe I could do it in glass.. but then I'm gonna have to take it to a glass shop to put the slots in the top.. can they even do that with glass, or will the teeth along the top be too weak?

Anyhow, I'm open to suggestions right now.....
More like, desperate for suggestions right now. This tank has to be put back together by around 6pm tomorrow and since it takes 24 hours for silicone to be cured, I need to get a move on.

Ok, I had a thought, let me know what you think.

I can make it out of glass, and make it just a little shorter than normal, I can put the tank back together and then just have an acrylic piece with the teeth made and silicone it to the top/outside of the glass overflow.
Does that make sense? do you think it would work?
Or would the acrylic not attach well enough to the glass overflow?
Crap, just had another thought, the glass will be clear and I don't really want a clear overflow....
DAM!!!!!!!! I'm drowning here......

Did you get a hold of Kevin (reefalot)? If I remember correctly, his single overflow cost about $49. It handles somewhere around 100gph and is a bargin at that price.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Talked to him yesterday, quoted me $65 for the overflow.

I'm on the verge of calling him again..... its just more than I was intending on spending.....

You could do it out of glass like you say but the acrylic may not stick to the glass very well you could drill some holes in the glass and attach the acrylic with nylon screws. Dont worry about it being clear it will be covered in coraline in no time.

Done! Thanks Nick! and Thanks Tedu!

Gotta say, Nick does great work and anyone here that needs something done in acrylic, call him first.
You won't be disappointed.

My overflow came out great, and I also got some of his adjustable maxijet holders, very nice.
