http://www.octopets.com/index.html I stumbled across t looking for sandbed clams. 100 clams for $10 sure sounds a lot better than ipsf.com 6 for $19.95 Any interest in splitting an order not sure what shipping will be but will check it out.

Hell yea, I'm in. I could always use some more pods, too. You know, expand the old gene pool, and all.

I will either be ordering from them or from fishsupply in a month or so. I want to get any kinks from the new lights worked out before I get the new octo.

I was excited when I saw cuttlefish available here in the states...After about 10mins of reading I realized I didn't have a large enough tank, since my 75g reef is the minimum size required, and it would wreak havok in that tank. So I'll stick with a bimac octo for now.

Yeah, I have read up on cuttlefish for a while. I like the Ink site. But like Brian I will have to wait for now, til I have a fish room with a longer tank.

Guess it takes quite a chiller to keep cephalopods heathy and happy. I noticed they said the life expectancy doubles in a cold water tank. Not sure I could keep something I knew would die in 12 - 14 months :( be too sad if you got attached to it.

Here is the question I posted to octopets.com

I am interested in your clams to use as sandbed clams for my reef tank and for your pod breeding kit to add diversity to my refugium. Does the pod kit include both Ulva and Gracilaria? What would be the shipping cost to 77340? Cheers..

Here is the answer I received

Shipping would be around $35, If you would like both types of seaweed for you pod kit send me an email after you order with your order# requesting both kinds of seaweed and I will send them.

Thanks

Jim

I told him we might do a group order and he responded as follows:

You can email me your order, also I give aquarium club discounts for group orders.

He didn't say if it had to be a club sponsored group order so we should ask before we order :)

It depends on the species. Keeping a tank chilled will not double a warm-water species live span. 12-14 months is the max life expectancy of bimacs in the wild. If you can keep your temp in the mid-lower 70s they'll generally do pretty well. My tanks stayed pretty close to 75 and I had him 10 months from the day I recieved him. That's about right considering they keep them for a month or two to raise them large enough to ship. Since they don't like intense light, it shouldn't be a problem to maintain a tank at a suitable temp without a chiller, but it depends on how cool you keep your house. I like it about 70, so it isn't a problem, but if you like to keep your house at 78-80, then you might need a chiller.

www.tonmo.com is the best place for info if you're thinking of keeping one of these critters.
