Seems like a newb question to me but I need an answer.

I'm looking to add a couple VHO T12's to my hood for dawn to dusk. The UVL Super actinics say claim to have an internal 180* reflector??? Does this mean that I don't need to buy a reflector for these????

Thanks gents

vho's do not require reflectors's they are built in.
they are also new t-5's on the market that comes with internal reflectors as well. I believe compact flourescents also have new bulbs with internal reflectors that claim to add more par.

So how do you know which way goes down? :) I assume you would want the bulb markings down.

Am I wrong?

yes, mario is correct, you can clearly see the white line. it's a 180 reflector. if all else fails just plug them in and rotate if needed. unlike t-5 endcaps, t-12's has to rotate to to lock in place. atleast mine does. so put them in in any direction, twist to lock and rotate them if you put them in upside down.

NEXT QUESTION:

What do you guys think about these ballasts???

http://www.reefgeek.com/lighting/Pa..._T5_High-Output_Ballast_by_Universal_Lighting

Now I'm thinking about redesigning the entire light setup in my canopy. Somewhat tired of the Icecap washing the color out of my bulbs. Considering getting regular ballasts to run my 4 T5's. Then letting my 660 run the new VHO T12's I want to add for dawn to dusk.

Do you guys think I will still be able to grow SPS anywhere in my tank with these ballasts?

Do you think I would need to add 2 more T5's?

I hate this... start doin a little tweaking here and there then all of a sudden I'm changing EVERYTHING!!! :)

MODS:

Can I change thread titles on here? The thread has evolved and I'd like the title to reflect that. :)

:)

I'm not worried about the wiring diagram. I'll let my brother the ex-electrician worry about that. hehehehehe

I just need to make sure that I am looking into the correct ones.

Damn that reefgeek link! It's just an accustart T5 ballast. Reefgeek surprised me with how few T5 ballasts they had. :)

So I guess the question is workhorse or accustart? Or should I just do what my brother said in the first place and go to the electrical supply to get some regular ballasts?

Correction:

Accustart is actually made by Univeral Lighting
