Is there any reason all the seems in a Durso stand pipe would need to be glued?
I'm imagining they dont need to be water tight since the worst that will happen is your overflow box will drain in the event of a power loss.

Any thoughts?

The only one that is glued on mine is the bottom one. But, you are correct, there'e no pressure and other than a really small drainage if power is off, no problem.

I just thought of a possible reason.
Ok, I used 3/16" acrylic instead of 1/4", Could the pressure of 90 gallons in the tank bust the overflow if there is no water inside it?

I may glue the bottom joint in.

your pipes wouldn't experience that much pressure (the 90 gallons you mentioned). regardless, i think it'd be fine even w/o glue. you could always try it out and see for yourself. all you'd have to do is rinse off any salt and dry the contact points before you glue if you find leaks.

if the overflow kicked out it might knock the pipe loose if it is not in securely, not sure how you could test to make sure that dont happen. I dont think it likely but if it did -- that would be a big mess to cleansup you might consider a screw in bulkhead over a slip that way you have protection and the ability to remove it should you need to.

I can't see any reason to glue it. After a while as tiny bits of gunk and calcium build up, it shouldn't come apart without quite a bit of force. My bottom connection into the bulkhead fitting is screwed. When I took my last tank apart, the standpipe came apart, but not easily.

Agreed that you don't need to glue it. I do sometimes glue the bottom joint (between standpipe and male adapter) so it's easier to thread the thing into the bulkhead.
