Ok, 2 weeks ago I saw one of my hermit crabs walking around without its shell on. I thought that was quite strange. THen today, I see one of my snails walking around without its shell also. Is this normal? I thought they would die, but no, they just keep on moving around like nothing.

I guess you've got a nudist tank or something?? :D
Seriously, I'm betting the snails are stomatella or something, but I've never seen a hermit comfortable without a shell covering it's arse.

Maybe your hermit has out grown his shell and you don't have another shell large enough for him to be comfortable in, to me though it still sounds odd.
Is the hermit still active without the shell? I would guess that he would take up residence in a rock until he could locate a new shell, if this is the case.

Snails are "attached" to their shells. They cannot live separated.
