How do all of you dose kalk?
I know Tcarlson mixes it and pours it in his sump every morning.
I'd like to setup a drip that I can turn on at night and off during the day.
Maybe on a timer so I don't have to touch it except to refill it.
Right now I use a Kent Float switch for my auto-top off.
I can't add kalk to that top-off water because it will clog the kent switch.

Should I worry about having the drip stop during the day? or just let it go 24-7?
Anyone have DIY plans for an effective kalk dripper that won't clog?

I drip as my top off.
I use a 5 gallon bucket with a bulkhead an use an IV drip tube at a rate of about a drop every 3 seconds. Every so often I have to clean the end of the drip line, but its rare.

You should only worry about dripping 24/7 if your parameters are out of wack, like Alk being to high. But after you find out the right amount of kalk to mix you should be fine. I use a 5 gallon jug (rigged to auto top off) to drip my kalk 24/7.

Use a float switch. When the water level in your sump drops from evaporation, the switch turns on a powerhead in a H20 reservoir and pumps into your sump. Use kalk makeup water in the reservoir.

Here is a cheap source for float switches

I have a DIY kalkreactor. It is connected to a 12gal reservoir. I use a kent float valve in my sump. It's been running for about 4 months and so far, no clogged kent valve. Since I'm using a kalkreactor, the effluent comming out of it is clear.

Where did you hear that it will clog a kent valve?

If the kalk mix is not settled, then pieces of undissolved kalk can get into it and clog it.
