Lets talk boats....I mean yachts. (1 Viewer)

I just got back from a Disney Cruise that went from FL to St. Maarten, Puerto Rico, and Castaway Cay (Disney island) and I have to say it was a pretty fun trip. But I don't care how good you think you are doing financially when you go to places in the Caribbean it really opens your eyes on how little you make compared to some people. I am fascinated by the yachts that I saw and wondered if anyone has ever been on boats like these. Maybe one day I will have enough to be able to buy one some day.

Here are some of the boats that I saw.

Did a tour and the guide was talking about a Russian guy's boat that was the size of a small cruise ship. Didn't see it but did a quick search and came up with this one. Talk about insane.

Ya, it's insane when you realize how many people have sooooo much money.

And even if you don't go to that extreme, I was watching some of these videos just yesterday, getting all pissed off (aka jealous).
Apparently some people have nothing better to do than sale around all over the place!

Well that video confuses me because how do people afford to do that. Does someone pay them to sail around and post videos, family money, cost of living cheap since all you do is sail around? My family never had any money and I have had to work from day one so I don't see how people can travel like this, just like the people that backpack through Europe. Hmmmm.....maybe I need to quit and buy a sailboat.

Here's a thread from another forum by a guy (Friendswood, I think) who's having a 72' boat custom built for him in Florida. It's a long thread, over 720 responses, but easy to get through cause there's a lot of fluff. Good pics about how all that gets put together.

Thanks for the link steve. At first I was thinking those finishing boats were around 1.5Mil brand new but then I looked it up and that boat is around 5-6Mil.

On another note, talked to the GF about taking off work and sailing the Caribbean for 6 months - 1 year and she is all for it. Now I just have to start the planning, looking around 2018.

Any thoughts from anyone about would you sail or motor for a trip like this?

Hate to drag up an old topic, but this is my FOREVER "I have made it" dream. To retire on a Yacht (with crew) and just cruise around the world. Just me and the wife (and the kids and grandkids from time to time).

I can see myself traveling from Yacht basin to Yacht basin for YEARS....until I find that one place, or climate, or house, or whatever that I cannot leave.

I used to work with a guy who had been a Captain of a 77' Tarrab. He missed it greatly. I would love to call him out of retirement and let him see the world again.

I just watched the video......and I agree. Hate their guts! LOL Man, I wish I would have done some traveling before the kids, career, and mortgage! LOL
