Thats why i like the 40 breeder, the depth makes it where it doesnt need intense lighting to reach the bottom.

Ohhh, ok. I thought you meant you paid $80 each. But you can find really good deals on MARSH every now and then. I think it was last week someone was selling a dual 175W MH PFO ballast with bulbs and reflectors for $100. You just cant beat that. Just gotta look around and wait for the deals to show up. But thats just like anything i suppose.

well a true actinic bulb says it and if you read on these they say just a blue bulb. king of like those colored light bulbs you can buy at wal-mart.

Like i said when i bought mine a year ago they didnt come with actinics. they might come with them now. I dont know. look at the end of the bulb and if it says actinic then its actinic and they have changed. It has been a year.

Well look at this page and tell me what you think. They are not colored blue for sure in my setup, but turn blue when i turn them on. I looked at the bulb and it only says T5HO 24w

Blue lights

The bulbs in the Odessey system are true actinic, they use True Actinic 03 phosphorus in their bulbs. Some manufacturers also add some white phosphorus to the bulb to give it more reach as the blue color range doesn't reach as well. And if it floats your boat to specify a brand of bulb, it is only your opinion of what a true actinic bulb should look like. How do I know??? I have the spec sheet from their engineering department on the bulbs. The bulbs say BLUE , but so do some of the very expensive german bulbs..are they also junk because of the nomenclature on the bulb? People talk alot about the Chinese made items, but it wasn't too long ago that everything Japanese was considered junk and look now! Something that costs more or has a "Name" doesn't always mean it is better. I have had 2 Sun Pack bulbs that were returned because they were faulty from the get go, WHY??
