i have recently aquired an oceanic 35 hex tank that will become an sps tank. my plan was to put a 250 watt 10,000k halide with 2 short pc or vho actinic supplements. my question is will a 400 watt halide be too much for that tank since it wont be too much more money. im goin all out for this system. ive had so much fun stocking my 27 gal but have run out of room! i have over 25 different coral species including 7 acros, 3 monti caps and various brains, leathers, and other stuff. had it for 2 years now with 178 watts of pc. this will be my first halide foray. it should be fun!

Is the hood well ventilated? If not, and no chiller, the 400 watt MH will heat up the water and cook your corals. If you were to use a MH pendant, it should work fine.....IMO.

A 250w HQI is about the same as a 400w MH. It uses less electricity and produces less heat. If you used a 14k or 20k bulb, you won't even need to suppliment with PC/VHO actinincs. That's what I'd do.

You don't really need to with 10k either.
