I have a colt 1911 aluminum frame and one of the grip bushings are stuck. Vice grips are out of the question. Dont want to spend 100 bucks...gasp, or wait three weeks. First the bushing stripped with brownells grip bushing tool. Got three out but this last one on the top right has given me trouble. Saw it was pinned in. So took my dremel and carefully unpinned it, which I have done several times before. Tired the vice grips, nope. Applied heat with soldering iron, nothing. I'm stumped. I've done most of the work on my 1911. Including grip saftey, dehorn and minor repairs on other 1911s. I know the ins and outs of my gun.

Any ideas? Id rather bring it in....go grab lunch and pick it back up. Its a bare frame and gonna get cerakoted. So there's nothing on it.

TLDR: 1911 grip bushing stuck, need a smith to get it out and possibly refinish it.

Im interested. Brownells has a staking and removal tool for those. I almost bought it for a similar problem. Glad you were able to get it out.

That removal tool works but not very well. I even chucked it into a drill press, held pressure so the bit wouldn't slip and turn by hand. Still slipped off the bushing. It finally broke the bushing. So I had to bust out the vice grips with no success and that ez out worked perfect. It got a good bite and screwed it out.

Oh well those grip bushings are disposable and cheap. Next set I'm just gonna blue locetite and install with proper tool just a scosche past finger tight.

I will also get after coating pics posted up.

Here it is....

Colt Defender 3" 1911.

Mods include
Graphite black cerakote
Frame and slide dehorned
Round butt grip
Colt Commander old style grip safety
Novak sights, rear blacked out
Custom fitted trigger/sear/hammer (wilson combat)
Cocobolo grips by Esmeralda

Went to a bbq today and got a lot of complements on it. Looks and feels like a custom gun
