These lemmings want to raise the minimum wage to $15/hr under the premise our current min wage is not enough to support their families. Let me say for the record, they make killer fries and I don't have any qualms with anyone that works at McDonald. My problems lie with their misguided greed and delusional expectations that know no boundaries. Heck when i finished college yesteryear if someone had offered me anything remotely north of $10/hr I'd have pounced on it like white on rice :)

At minimum you should make $40-45K annually and as high as $60K/annually if you went to good university (A&M/UT...).

What kind of degree did you get? If you are making $10-15 an hour after college look for another job.

These people deserve the raise to $15. Imagine feeding your family with $7.50 an hour.

I didn't have any prior experience and the econ was tanking hard. I hold two degrees. CIS and Health care Management. Why?
I'm not disputing the fact it's tough to put food on the table when you work dead end jobs but isn't that why we better ourselves by getting a degree, learn new trade, or make yourself indispensable? I have no issues with any hard working folks out there pulling an honest paycheck. I just don't see how anyone can justify "Entitlement" when you know what your salary expectation would be when you first applied for the job. It's akin to a football player suing the NFL because they got hurt.

I guess my question would be - what if your job skills/performance are only worth $7.50 per hour? No job at all?

There's both sides to this, but doubling minimum wage doesn't solve everyone's problems.

These jobs should just be a stepping stone or temporary jobs to other better jobs or careers, I don't think it should be raised and no one should be trying to raise a family working at mc Donald's .

But I think there's more to this behind the scenes...

I've worked very hard for my career and my family. I couldn't imagine demanding a handout. I worked flipping burgers when I was young. There's a reason I'm still not there. ;)

I came up from flipping burgers to managing restaurants to where I am now. I used those jobs for what they were STEPPING stones. They aren't intended for full time life long careers.

These are all valid points and I agree the minimum wage should be increased. I disagree with more than doubling it and don't think that will ever fly, just not practical for many low margin businesses (e.g. fast food). It is true those jobs are usually stepping stones for most, but it is impossible to raise a family on that and some people just aren't qualified for more. The fact that they are working should allow them to be able to at least meet some minimum standards. It's panhandling that I can't handle.

Saw the news this morning where McDonald's employee staged a sit in at one of their restaurants in CA. Are you kidding me?

I can understand picketing Walmart, they cheated their employees of OT pay, but if you don't think your employer pay you enough then the internet is your best friend.

^^ I think most of us agree with this statement.

Let's face the facts... higher demand for fast food causes these fast food chains to open more locations. More Textile industries are finding cheaper labor outside the US and or technology is cutting out those jobs now.

Not everyone in Houston that runs out to a tech school can find a job locally to support their family. I have a good friend that had to move to Baton Rouge just to find a job doing body work.

I'm all for raising it above $10 but not double...that's some bs.

I dont think most of you all understand what raising the minimum wage will really do to the economy. Have you heard of hyper inflation? Thats exactly what will happen if you double minimum wage. Look at most of the types of companies that pay minimum wage. Department stores, Grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants. You really think that a store that is running a margin along the lines of 5-10% (grocery stores) is going to be able to support a 50% increase in wages? You might not have noticed the slowly increasing prices in groceries due to the increase in gas prices, but I can guarantee you its there, have you looked at the price of milk and eggs lately? Compare it to what it was 5-6 years ago, CPI has only been increasing about 1.5-2.5% annually. Gas prices are up 60%. Back to my original point, raising minimum wage for jobs that are stepping stones to real jobs by 100% is going to do nothing except cause all of our daily usage goods to go up significantly in price.

Exactly. I'm a retail manager myself, if minimum wage went up to 10.00, My monthly payroll would stay the same. I have 25 employees. 5-7 would be out of jobs. That would be the case with every retail, restaurant... really any business that even has minimum or close to minimum wage employees. If a wendys cashier starts making 10.00/hour... what would that do to the CAD drafters that make 10.00/hour? Their pay would have to increase as well otherwise why would they stay in that position? Everyone's pay would have to get scaled up in one way or another for people under 20/hour. So many people would be out of jobs if that happened. Taxes would increase as someone has to pay for those said peoples wellfare, Medicaid etc etc.

It would be an all around mess

What exactly have they done to deserve it other than spit out kids they can't afford?

Guess what my friend. At the moment they are collecting welfare so you and I are paying for all their 7 kids (100%) plus they make minimum wage. I'm proposing that they make more money which will over-qualify them for welfare (which means they can't get welfare) and at minimum they have a job and do something good in society.

Which brings us back to why they're on Welfare in the first place, their skill sets or lack thereof. Increase their wages, like someone mentioned earlier, is going to jack up our current inflation tenfold. Gov assistance is designed to help you through temporary set backs not to relieve your financial issues while you push out ten kids from five different fathers. Not trying to make a blanket statement about everyone @McD but that seems to be the going trend.
