I caught this beauty out of the bay just this afternoon. It's a live Lightning Whelk, Busycon contrarium. I've caught these before, but never one this large. These things are voracious carnivores, will eat any kind of meaty critter they can find. Apparently this one has been finding lotsa meaty critters. Needless to say, he's back in the bay now. Kinda cool, I think.

good luck,
Steve

Big boy. Wonder if they will eat oysters. I know Whelks will kill your clams in your tank.

I have one about the same size in my tank he has stayed under the sand without moving for 6mo.. In the last 2mo he has decided to start moving.. He's big enough that he can move 50lbs live rock like nothing..
