Well. After many years of saying NO to having a dog, I think my boys/family is ready for a canine companion. The youngest one is slightly allergic (gets puffy eyes) from dogs so I'm looking for one that is hypoallergenic. Can anyone here help me find one? I prefer not to have a yappy small toy dog. The soft coated wheaten terrier looks promising.

I have never heard of a "hypoallergenic" dog before..... I was going to say my husband's sister has three pupies at her house but two for sure will have thick hair and propbably will be big later on down the road. But they were so cute I wanted to bring all three home. One was blonde with darker blonde spots, the second one was light chocolate with dark chocolate spots almost like those called Dapple color and the runt was looked all black with a white stripe going across the toes on one front paw. All mutes.

Ive got a teacup maltese, never gave me any allergy problems. She is 5 yrs old and weighs 4.8lbs. Most dogs and all cats give me allergies. I have 1 dog and 2 cats lol.

Hypoallergenic dogs are breeds like poodles, bichon frise, shih-tzu that don't shed. Grooming is different because the fur grows and has to trimmed unlike a shedding dog where you can just brush them out. The not shedding part is nice around the house though. We have a shih-tzu and a cavalier king charles and the cavalier sheds like crazy (picked his durn hair out of tank even). Shih-tzu is easy- just give him a summer buzz because he will get tangled if you don't brush him all the time.
A friend had a bichon and that was such a cool dog, don't let it do the whole cotton ball thing and it is actually a calm, friendly medium sized dog that will still play.

I would have never guessed that the long hair dogs was Hypoallergenic I had an Irish Setter but she did shed and would get her hair all tangled up if I did not brush it. I sure do miss her she lived to be 15 years old.

Most hypoallergenic dogs also have a pink skin. Maltese, poodles, shitzus etc.

I have heard that people havnt had any allergic reactions to shelties (shetland sheepdog) as well but they will require daily brushing. We are getting a sheltie puppy next weekend in dallas.

I'd love to get a Bengal cat someday. Only if I can afford one. They're wickedly awesome.

My dog, a hairy chihuahua shed likes it's nobody's business. Until I start her on Oatmeal Shedding Control shampoo from Walmart. My niece's no longer get any reaction from being around my dog due to less dander floating around the house.

I have a friend that is allergic to dogs, and cats for that matter. They bought an Airedale Terrier and she has not had any issues with it so far.

I believe the basenji is another of the non-shedders and they have shorter hair. They also don't bark like other dogs, they make an odd sound but no bark.
