Well I'm getting pretty close to being able to fill my 120 with salt water, but the plumbing needs help. The overflow is working and for the most part pretty quite, but the drain into the sump is pretty loud.

I have built my own sump and made a drain tower. I ran the drain from the Durso to the tower via a horizontal run, but ran into the flushing effect Richard Durso's web site - Flushing Effect. After making the change to a 45 degree down pipe - the water level in the over flow seems rock steady.

To solve the flushing effect and as a temporary measure - I ran a 45 degree pipe just below the water line in the sump - I hope to run into the tower.

Should the Durso empty onto a pile of rock in the tower? should it be above or below the water line?

The pump is a Mag 12. The drain is 1 1/2 inc the return is 1 inch.

I keep LR rubble in my bubble tower. You could try going back to the 90 degree to get over the bubble tower then us a tee adapter with one end going down into the bubble tower and the other up with a few inches of pipe to vent out the pressure and cut down on the noise.

I can try that, but I don't believe that will address the Flushing Effect. I'm not sure if you know what I mean, but watching the water rise and fall (as much as an inch) in the overflow worries me.

I have some SPA Flex - maybe I can install that with a little slope into the tower - Spa Flex - although pretty rigid - seems to be bendable if I can heat it up.

The water in the overflow - to high?

I made the Durso that high to quite the water fall into the overflow. I can cut it down some more (still haven't cemented it), but if I do I will be introducing noise into the overflow. Also - I thought my problem was not enough teeth cut into the overflow cover, so I opened up three teeth - big mistake I think - that made it louder.

In the sump - I hope to run it around 7" deep. I have a ATB 840 V1.5 Protein Skimmer and it likes to sit in about 7 inches of water.

i just went with clear 1" tubing it worked great for me since your not seeing any pressure and i had a pretty long run to make, not sure what the drawbacks would be if any? I think i know what you are talking about with the levels in the overflow fluctuating mine did / does the same thing i think it is when it pulls a siphon then looses it again, mine did this really bad at first then i messed with the hole in the cap on top of the stand pipe i actually had to silicone mine shut and start over. i have also been toying with the idea of installing a small valve there to really allow for tuning.

A valve idea has been posted on the Durso site - <a href="http://www.dursostandpipes.com/popular-modifications/3-adjustable-air-hole-modification>Adjustable Air Hole Modification</a>

I have have read - others installing a air stone attached to some air hose - this may be another option to the valve idea.
