I was looking into making my HOB Filter into a macro holder.. If i take the carbon and filter out, i can place plenty of this in there.. I am looking to do so, to help with nitrates.. Would i half to put a light on the filter, or will the algea die without it? Its a 46g bowfront, so i dont have a sump/refug..

thanks

What HOB you got? If its an AquaClear then yes it will work. Others work to.

Depending on how your light set up is decides if you have to have an light on it. A light isn't to hard to do though.

Edit: BTW cheato will be the kind you will want for it doesn't go sexual on you as bad.

I believe it is the Emporer 400.. Has 2 biowheels... I just put fiber in there , to catch junk that my skimmer doesnt.. i was thinking of putting the macro in there, and the fiber at the back of it.. Its a pretty big space..
I am gonna look tommarow at Home Depot, and see what kinda light i can find for that area.. and then put it on a timer to come on ewhen the moonlights kick in..

Thanks

Make sure you get a nice little PC light for the algae to grom from.

The light is a question I am still trying to answer, but I will tell you this, when you put it on, you might have to find a way to shield it from leaking into your tank, I need to find a good enough light to grow algae myself.

If you find a good "small" light tell me. I had thought of getting a socket and making my own reflector to direct the light down into it and putting one of those aquarium curly pcs in it.
