I'm wanting to buy an acrylic tank, is it safe to use metal halides with this kind of tank? I know I need to raise the metal halides at least 6-10 inches above the surface. Would 10-12 inches above the tank cause any damage being the lights mounted on a closed canopy? Thanks. Also an acrylic tank not in use is it safe to buy? Will it leak, break? thanks!

I have an acrylic tank with no center brace made by sea clear, and running 2 x 175 watt metal halides and 2 x 110 watt vho actinic mounted six inches above the water. There is no discoloration on the top perimeter brace of the tank or any warpage, thus far. As long as the halide is not directly over the acrylic within a couple of inches, you should be fine. I also have 2 x 4 inch fans blowing air in the canopy, which helps keep everything nice an cool.
