I have my overflow water going through a micron bag in my sump and was wondering if anyone has a good method for cleaning it. I have been using a high pressure sprayhead on the garden hose and then soaking it in saltwater to remove all the chlorine before putting it back in the sump.

That's prob the best you're going to be able to do. You might try bleaching it, but it may fall apart.

I throw mine in the washer machine 2 times a week with no detergent or bleach. I use hot water on the HEAVY WHITE setting. Now I will warn you the smell is quite bad and dont do it when the wife is home or...... you know the rest. Anyway after washing do a empty load to get the smell out. My bag comes out dry from the spinning. I have 2 bags that i alternate (PM bags from Global) and they are 8 months old and still in good condition. Hope this helps!

I saw a thread on RC about this awhile back, and someone had found a source online where you could buy the filter socks in bulk for like $1-2 each. At that price, I would almost consider them disposable and forget about the hassle of cleaning them. I'll try to dig up the thread and maybe we can do an order, since I need some myself.

I always just spray mine off real well with the garden hose and let it air dry. I alternate a couple different ones. I've also used the leg part from old nylon pantyhose, and they work really well, too. Those I just pitch when I'm done with 'em.

OK, I found the link:

http://www.filterbag.com/browse.php

Just pick the material (polypropylene felt is standard), size, and microns you want. For my tank, I am ordering #3 100 micron with plastic clamps - for $1.76 each.

There is a $1.99 handling charge for anything under 50 units, but it's still a great deal. And before anyone asks - I'm not organizing a group order for this, because it's not worth the hassle to save $2.
