I have a 2001 Yamaha FZ1 with about 27,000 miles on it. Rode it a lot and actually fixed it up a bit with reworked shocks and new front for bigger rider. It has been sitting now for a few years, just never got it out and then stopped starting it every month and it sat. I did put seafoam in the tank when I last prepped it to sit though. Well- we're about to move and I think it is time to sell it. I am going to put the battery tender back on and see if the battery is salvageable.
Does anyone know a backyard mechanic that could take a look and see about getting it started? Otherwise I will have to sell it without it starting and that will affect the price a lot. It was working great when it first sat, but realize it will take a bit to get it back up to speed.
If anyone has suggestions please let me know. I am both non-mechanically inclined and recovering from surgery and not able to lift things for a while just want to maximize what I can get back out of it. Without it running and a trailer, getting it to a mechanic seems impractical plus not sure getting it running at dealer rates would increase its value or not.
Thanks!

I have a friend with an old Harley that sat for 1 year..due to bring a beast to ride....
Metal tank!!
When i pulled the tank it had rusted all the inside and cost him 800 too clean the carbs..because we tried to start it... In the end .
He needed a new tank and the only. other solution was gas jug to keep it running.... ..carb job if its got em.. And alot of waisted money.
Learned his lesson..
Never let them sit..if you have to..add fuel stabilizer..
You can look inside tank with flash light and probably see the rust.
That's why it stopped running..got junk in the lines..rust more than likely.
Good luck !!

I put seafoam in, that is a fuel stabilizer like stabil. No rust, I haven't tried starting yet because I know it needs to be drained/replaced with new gas first. Just hoping someone with experience could help with process for a few bucks/frags or whatever. Understand it should have been run but hasn't so here I am.

There's a couple of tows in Houston that specialize in bikes only. They have specialized cargo vans. If you want to go that route Lmk or call Honda at 290/West Rd. They'll have the numbers.. Your insurance should cover the towing. Mine did at least. Should be under $100. You'll likely need carb work which isn't too expensive depending on the bike. You can do the rest yourself. But if you're planning on selling it, just let a hookup do it.
