Vertex will not be enough to push your tank. It's great for the return but you will still need powerheads of some sort.

You don't have to use Ecotech. Tunze also makes a line of controllable pumps($$) that are slightly less expensive. Or get non-controllable Tunze pumps for even less $$.

For even less than the Tunze, the controllable Koralias are pretty popular. For around $900 of Vortechs, maybe try an MP60 and a pair of MP10s?

Mp60, I think is too much. I am running 4 Mp40s on my 260 and its a crap ton of flow. The mp40s will move around 5 feet of water effectively. Here is what I like a dislike about the 3 I would use on an sps tank

Tunze,
Controllable
Moderately Priced
Lots of Issues with death of the pumps
Flow is a steam almost linear in comparison to the outlet of the pump
Great Customer service, but doesnt go very far if your having to continuously having to return pumps

Korallia
Controllable
Cheap in price
Wide cone shaped flow stream
They tend to run in reverse and break fairly easily, but I guess you get what you pay for.

Vortech,
Wide stream
Controllable- but in a more random different way then the others
No Cords in the tank.
Very low energy consumption(not sure on how they rank compared to the others above though)
Expensive.
Ecotech are very proud of their product, and are very very Arogant. Are not the cheapest things in the world to repair.
I wouldnt trade them for the world though.

If you really want Vortechs and don't want to come out of pocket for them at this time, I say go as cheap as possible until you can get what you really want. There's nothing worse than forking up a decent amount of change for something you are "settling" for.
This is an empty thought but I would let you borrow some Koralias if I had any extra until you get what you want.

Since you wanna do sps you should go with vortechs yes they're expensive but are really worth it
Random chaos is what you need!

Dude, go the distance! Choose the 40's.
I have Korallia's now and it was THE biggest mistake I ever made................ Well almost!! The BIGGEST was taking you in my truck and your starbucks spilled all over my carpet and I didn't found out till two days later! MAN, skim-mate is like parfum compare to starbucks two days in a truck full sun.
Btw, if you want those korallia's your welcome cause I'm gonna fire up the 40's this weekend.

After I got my 40's running you can pick them up. You can have them for free if you become a paid member, how's that?
