i just purchased some mushrooms yesterday. from what i have read they are one of the easiest inverts to maintain. i have put them in my tank, and they still refuse to open up. is this normal? i have checked almost all the water parameters, and everything checks fine. I currently have a flowerpot, green anchor, and colt that are all doing well. any advise is appreciated.

They can take a couple days to open once introduced. Just give them a couple days under good light and they should open.

You can also try to squirt some micro-vert or phytoplankton on them w/ a syringe. That might spur their interest in opening.

What kind of lighting do you have? If you have metal halides, you might need to acclimate the mushrooms to the light slowly over the next couple of weeks.

i have two jebo, i think they are power compacts?, they are half blue and half white. each unit is 220w. i have set my live rock so i have some caves and overhangs. i have placed the mushrooms along the cave walls so they are getting partial lighting, not direct. do you think this is ok? thank you for your response.

Id think they'd be fine...

Sometimes mushrooms just do that.. even now, sometimes they just flip out and kinda close up.. just let em be, keep in good light and let em ride..

The only advise i can offer than hasn't been mentioned already is the make sure the flow isnt so direct. They'll probably be fine.

They might even ditch the rock they came on and float around to other areas of the tank. Some of them will be goners, yes.. but the ones that find a really good place will really start to thrive (and multiply). But then again, if you've got them placed well enough, they'll open up eventually and grow where they are.
