Some of you may have seen these over on nano-reef.com, but I wanted to share here as well. This is what I'll be filling my time with now that my 75 gal is in its new home.

Ok, here are my first tank photos - a couple of the tank and some with the rockwork.

I tried to go with kind of a long tunnel look (kind of a cross between an atol and a cave) - let me know what you think.

The first one here, is not an acurate represntation of color, but I just wanted to show some scale:

Nanofullshot.jpg

This second one is more accurate on the color (3x18w pc's, a 50/50, a 7500k, and an actinic):

Here is a closer look at the rockscaping:

A view from above (pretty good water movement can be seen - using the mini-jet 606):

And the sump... I plan on cutting the sponge in half, moving half the rubble into the first compartment and adding some chaeto to the middle area when I decide how I want to light it (maybe with a submersible light):

BTW, that is my VERY gheto attempt at a diy cassette style skimmer (just bought the dremel yesterday ;) ) I'm planning on buying one of the more professionally machined skimmers like This One

The little red splotch you see in the skimmer is some homemade fish food I had in the freezer so I just tossed a little piece in to help the cycle along.

Comments welcome!

Thanks, the tank is at home on a table by the bed. I may move it into the den where I'll see it more often.

It will still be a week or two before I add any livestock. I'm planning on adding a tail-spot blenny and maybe a goby/pistol pair, along with a small cleanup crew.

seems like a custom lighting job. did you also add a fan into the hood?

i bought my nano-cube when it first came out and added another 24w to go with the original 24w and a fan. The darn thing evaporates 16oz a day.

do you also get a good amount of evaporation?
I also use rubble in the back compartment. i built a mini-remora skimmer for the back but never got around to putting it into the back compartment.

looks like a good start to your tank :)

Thanks tvu. See the post above about the custom work - external ballast, extra fans, etc.

I haven't measured evaporation yet, but I'm sure it will be a fair amount given the watts per gallon.

I also use rubble in the back compartment.

Seems to be about 1/2 cup per day. Having the upgraded fans really helps with cooling. When I was cycling, I ran the lights like normal but forgot to turn on the fans (no timers yet) and the water temp got up about 2.5 degrees hotter.

I threw in a cheapie heater in the pump compartment (got one on clearance for $3) just to maker sure it doesn't get below about 77 degrees. Trying to maintain 77-80 degress.

I also removed the sponge and moved my rubble from the second to the first compartment and just put a small portion of the sponge on top. I'm going to replace that with filter floss later.

I now have chaeto in the second compartmet. I was going to put in a submersible egg light, but it looks like there is actually a fair amount of bleed over from the main lights so I'm going to wait and see.

I added my cleanup crew on Tuesday (thanks FragsNCrabs) and all is well. I'll be getting some frags at the swap on Saturday and will probably add a fish in the next week or two.

Here are a couple of shots of what I picked up today at the frag swap - first corls for my nano. I'm sorry the quality isn't better. The curved glass makes it tough to focus in close.

Here is an overall. Top left is an itty bitty bubble coral frag (perfect size), on the bottom is a ricordia yuma, lower right is a kenya tree and just above that to the right is some fire and ice zoas.

Closer:

Ricordia Yuma (probably move to a lower flow area):

Fire and Ice Zoas:

Bubble Coral (really couldn't get this to focus, but they look happy):

Next will be some bright orange zoas from jjackson and then maybe some more lps.

Maybe a Finex M-tank - or maybe a Nick's custom - around 20 gal. We'll need to talk.
