I am not a DIY-er....not at all, but nevertheless I decided to remove the scratched up front panel from my new custom tank so I can replace it Starphire. After several long hours I finally managed to get the piece removed, and although this would probably be a trivial task to most of you, I'm pretty darn proud of myself and have the photos to prove that I did it!

I know...I know...the glass is almost as big as me....I saw that joke coming from a mile away :D

(and I only cracked the trim a little bit  , doesn't matter though, as it's in-wall and the trim isn't visible)

Very cool!!! I tried removing a piece of glass from the front of a tank I ended up getting mad and breaking it... on purpose :)

I dont know that I would have been IN the tank when i removed the glass but I guess it worked out :)

It took me a good 3 hours.

I am replacing it with Starphire.....like Scott said, the tank was scratched when I picked it up....but they gave me a big discount....enough to pay for the Starphire front panel, so basically I'm getting a tank with a Starphire front for the same price as I would have paid for the regular glass.

I will document the step by step process for attatching the front pane in my tank build thread in general reefkeeping. It will give me something to do while I watch Scott do the silicon work

oh yeah....the blue shower curtain thingy is from Ikea....it just helps hide where all the equipment, sump, etc. is going to be.

I hope the new piece holds perfectly so you can enjoy the new tank finally. That didn't look like fun at all. There's a glass tank build thread on DFWMAS that might help you with the siliconing. David has built a few tanks and did a nice job documenting how to do it cleanly:

I don't know if I can answer that on this forum without breaking the rules. Just email me at melev@swbell.net

Put Houston in the subject line.
