After 3 months of collecting parts. Finally my tank is running about 2 weeks. Very new on this salt water and reef tank and I need a lot of advice from every one. I have been on fresh water for long time.

Thanks in advance.

1. tell us what kind of lighting you are using. (metal halide, power compact, T5, VHO, freshwater light fixture w/normal bulbs)

2. how long are the lights kept on?

3. is there any livestock(fish/coral)? (I see 1 blue damsel)

4. are you using a skimmer? (show us a picture)

5. are you sing a sump/refugium? (show us a picture)

6. how thick is that sand bed? What's it made out of?

7. how many total gallons in the display tank?

8. any specific desires in the types of fish you want to keep later on? Coral desires?

9. are you adding any chemicals to the tank other than fresh top off water? (calcium, iodine, prime, pH buffer, phytoplankton, purple up, zooplankton, ANYthing really)

and the most important question...

10. How long do you spend actually staring into the tank after coming home from work?

P.S. It might be helpful in other various ways if you updated your profile with your tanks location. Other members and guests may find you are RIGHT in their neighborhood and could offer a helping hand in time of emergency...

As bulbs wear out (12months-18months), replace all but 2-3 with pure or super actinic. Stick with geismann, ATI, UVL. There are other options, but this is just getting started.

2. how long are the lights kept on?
Need some suggestion how about start with 6hrs a day(i'm running 12 hours right now, but fully intend to cut it back to 6)

3. is there any livestock(fish/coral)? (I see 1 blue damsel)
only 1 Blue Green Chromisis

6. how thick is that sand bed? What's it made out of?
2 " I would consider increasing the depth of the sand bed (for nitrate reduction) http://www.wetwebmedia.com/deepsandbeds.htm
7. how many total gallons in the display tank?
around 135

Get your hands on some zoanthids & blue mushrooms. I think you'll enjoy those. http://zoanthids.com/

Pick up a bottle of "Purple Up" ($16 @ petsmart)and throw in 2 capfuls every other day roughly 3-6 hours before lights come on. Just as a trail run. Purple Up contains a lot of beneficial stuff that help things with hard shells grow. Later you can get something a little more reasonable in price. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=12799

equipment wise, everything looks fine..Is your tank in its cycling process? If it is, no livestock for 6 more weeks. Afterward, slowly stock your livestock.

I'm currently running my lights like this (I have 6 T5 bulbs)

The blues come on at 10am and the daylights come on at 11am. Then the daylights go off at 8pm and the blues go off at 9pm, at which point my moonlight LEDs turn on. I used to run my lights 12 hours, all on and all off, but then I cut back to this schedule. And right now, my lights are completely off for 2-3 days. I think it's good to do this once every couple months or so. Just pretend it's raining. ;)

How did I miss this thread? Dude, I "love" 156g tanks! I very own crvz has one, and it's Phat-alat-tat! (You like what I did there, dontcha?) Oh wait... he replied to this thread already. D'oh!

You're tank looks great and you have definitely done your homework. Great work! I'd almost remove that rock you have in the center of the two "mounds." Might give it that sweet canyon effect. ;)

Yes... but, that's just my opinion, and I "suck" at rockscaping. ;)

I just like that canyon/valley look that you see with some tanks. It especially looks great when you have some SPS growing into the valley... like monticaps, or milli's. Just my thoughts... your tank really looks great, though!
