What do you feed new born pepperment shrimp?
Last night while I was sitting next to the tank hoping for my clownfish fry to hatch one of my pepperment shrimp shot up from the rocks she left s trail of babies behind her and majority of them went into the fry trap and I put them in the refug section of my sump were they could hide in the cheato.
Not sure if they even made it or not.

I've always wanted to include a peppermint shrimp larvae-producing section in a refugium - have it above the tank so pumps wouldn't shred the larvae. I just don't know how many peppermints I can put into such a contraption; would they eat each other? How many do you have in one container Mary?

I have no idea if I have any left I put them in the refug section of my sump where my cheato is at. I put them in there while I had all the lights off and pumps off while I was waiting for my fry to hatch which they never did that night.
I was hoping Cat might chime in on how to take care of these guys.... Because I have no clue.

I don't know how often they spawn and give birth. I was just lucky that night when it happened so I don't know how many other times she has release baby shrimps in the tank. But if I should be up when it happens again I will put them in a very small tank and go from there. Mike did tell me to feed them rotifers.

They can change sex at will so no need to get male/female pairs. As long as they're kept fed there's no problem with a number of them in the same container, though it helps to have them all the same size. The current females will carry their eggs from 1-2 weeks, its hard to tell for sure with the number I have lol. You'll know they're going to give birth when the eggs change from green to silver/grey. Around the second day of the color change you'll see they look like they're taking up more space than they did when they were green eggs, she'll release them that night, shortly after lights out.

Raising them is difficult, rotifers are a good first food. A small tank with very light circulation from an airline is best, I raised them for awhile in a 1 gallon bucket with an airline bubbling 1-2 bubbles per second, water tinted green with plenty of L rotifers. They can eat a surprising amount of rotifers for their small size.
