Hello everyone, I just moved to Houston about 6 weeks ago, and it's time to start getting my planned tank going. To begin with any helpful hints of things to watch out for due to the Houston climate would be great. Going from there I need a good aquarium builder, as I have a spot that will be around 7 feet long by 24-26 inches wide, with a depth of around 20 inches or so (not set in stone, but my last tank had a depth of 24 inches and that meant getting my arm down to the shoulder in the tank when cleaning). As well please advise on what people on here would say are the top 3 reef stores that I need to check out. I had a great ma and pop one back in Canada, and am hoping for something similar here. Thank you

Welcome to MARSH!

We have some great LFS here. Definitely check out FJW, 3CC, both great stores and sponsors here on MARSH. Dennis (FJW) and Brian (3CC) are great guys. Also check out T&T's Fish and Reef, City Pets, Fish Gallery.

Aquarium Design Group (ADG) here does custom tank builds, might want to give them a call.

Hi Trigger, welcome to Houston and welcome back to reefing :clap2:

I like your prospective tank dimensions; armpits in aquariums creep me out too. There are a number of great reef stores in town; check out the sponsors section to get a feel for them. Regarding the climate, it's hot almost year-round. You probably won't need a heater until late November. A chiller is nice if your A/C goes out.

Thank you for the insight. I know what I'm doing this weekend :) I also saw picture skills at work on Diesel's tank build tread. You had some really great shots.

Hi T-man, I'm new to Marshreef (haven't posted in ages), been around a little while in the hobby. :) Good to meet another sorta-newb :p. My favorite stores in Houston are T&T Tropical and Fish Land. :)

Welcome to Houston.

The only stores that I really go to are 3CC, FJW, and fish gallery.
