I finally ripped out my old useless protein skimmer and got around to hooking up a Bullet 1 and now my wife is complaining that the tank is tooo loud. And to think, i put a Durso stand pipe in to to quieten the overflow.

Anybody know how to quiet a noisy air valve on a Bullet 1. I am powering it with a Iwaki WMD40RLT and the air valve is about half open (but it is loud regardless of it being fully open or partially closed.) It does not help that the pump is making a noise also and vibrating slightly.

Try to muffle it using towels/filterfloss/etc. I ran the venturi line from my hang-on to down underneath my stand and put filter floss around the suction. Its much quieter now.

I made a pretty simple muffler for my bullet 1. Took a 2" long piece of tubing the diameter of the air intake valve and slid it into a 1" long piece of PVC (a little larger diameter) with an equal sized cap on the end. Drilled several holes in cap and then filled interior of tubes with filter floss. Slid whole setup onto valve. Quieted it way down. Can open valve as much as I need without extra noise.

Without it, it was LOUD!!!!
