It appears that you now must be a registered user to view the site. Can that be fixed?

We plan to bring a base landing page online that will be our public face but as for the forums we are requiring registration. We may loosen that up to allow read-only for non-logged in visitors but I need to go through and make sure that everything is secured correctly.

Was forum access requiring registration before or is this due to the new forum software?

No but that was due to a limitation in the old software. In order to help fend off the spammers and hackers it is best practice to require registration. Note that does not mean you need to be a paid member to read the forums, you just need to identify you not a bot by registering.

Some of the forums may be loosened up to allow reading the general forums this weekend after I review the security settings, but posting will always require registration.

Personally, I would not register unless I had a chance to see what I was getting into. I don't know of any forums that are that restrictive. But that is just my opinion.

I think some things shouldn't be viewable unless you are registered like the lounge or the for sale/trade/free threads. I also think people should need to be a paid member in order to even see the free section. Thats mostly because of all the pm's we get bombarded with and also because I think something being free should be a perk of membership. If none of the members want it (whatever that is) then they could easily post it for sale for like 1$ in the for sale thread.

Actually a lot of forums are like that and more are headed in that direction. Too many scanners and rip offs is the main reasoning.

Okay, if that is true, can you send me a link to any successful reef hobby related forum that does that? It's not that I don't believe you..........nevermind, I don't believe you...:p
