Is there anything you can paint acrylic with and allow it to still be put under water without harming anything? I want to get a piece of acrylic and paint it black or some other dark color..

Whoops, i think this goes under DIY..

If it's something that you need to put underwater, unless you already have the acrylic, could you not just buy a piece of acrylic in the color you want?

In the past, I was also wondering if it's safe to paint the PVC pipes in my tank.. but look like nobody tries that before. I don't like the look of the white PVC pipe in my tank! Wish that Home Depot will have black PVC tubes in the future:)

Long, some of the specialty stores charge more for colored, but the bigtime sellers dont really charge much more... check out johnson's plastic in pasadena, or www.specialtyproducts.com

There may be a few pennies difference in the colored material compared to the clear, but depending on the size of your project, it all evens out. You would have to purchase paint, spend your time applying etc. I use Laird Plastics in Stafford if that helps any.

I know what you mean about the white pvc. Feel the same here. We ended up replumbing alot of the tank where pvc shows to the grey schedule 80. It costs more but it helped with not seeing that glaring white pipe.

You can find the grey PVC in the electrical section of Lowe's and Home Depot.

I don't believe the gray electrical conduit is even schedule 40.

I would check and make sure and what your application would be. When we were looking for something besides white pvc we looked at the electrical but it didn't seem thick enough for the returns on the tank.

What we purchased is schedule 80 pipe in the plumbing department. Schedule 80 is thicker than the regular schedule 40 most of us use for plumbing on our tanks.

Just a thought!

I think I'll go w/ either the grey PVC or the clear ones when I re-setup my tank in the near future at a new house - properly in March. I like the clear PVC better, but they're pretty expensive.. Wonder if anyone esle is in the market for clear PVC so we can have a pool order? Oops, hope this pool order will be ok w/ our lfs :)
