What kind of paint can I use to paint the back of my aquarium? No one at Lowe's or Home Depot seems to know, but obviously it can be done as I've seen plenty of tanks with painted backs. Anyone know? Also, any suggestions on whether to paint it blue or black?

black for sure. blue just looks weird

if you are spraying it, use krylon fusion. for a 225 you may need several cans. I used krylon fusion on a 10gal before and then put several coats of clear over it to keep the equipment from chipping it

So is spraying the only option? I just don't want the fumes and residue getting all over my fishroom, and I can't take the tank outside because it's too much work.

I did one in blue, it just didn't look right.

if moving the tank is not feasible, might try 1 or 2 applications of limo tint, or vinyl layover!

I recently saw a 75g done this way, VERY CLEAN! And it's very easy to apply/remove as well.

sounds like a good option. If I remember, your tank is wide open in the back? Get someone to tint that thing with 5%. should look good and be removeable when you decide to sell

you can use black latex paint. it can be rolled on or brushed on. just be sure to do a couple of coats as there will be streaks and spots that didn't get covered fully. and once done, put a light behind it to make sure you can see spots you missed.

I saw a black bottom that that faded up to a blue towards one corner in a kind of radial pattern rather than straight. Looked like sunlight shining down. Pretty cool.

I saw someone who achieved that affect by using a piece of blue acrylic a few inches from the back of the tank and then shining soft light down. looked awesome, but I will never be able to find that thread again on RC lol

should also be noted, that painting on the surface of glass affects PAR output of you lighting setup. i heard this was metioned at MACNA this year. Odd how that works, seeing how coraline algae covers my back glass.
