Just got back from the Dike with Tom. Collecting turned out real good.

Lots of porcelain crabs to be had. Though this time we hit the jackpot on pods. We would grab the sargassum weed from inbetween the granite boulders and it would be loaded with pods.

We both must have easily collected a couple hundred or so.

I also picked up 2 rock anemones.

The pic is a pistol shrimp I collected. Once I got home and looked up close I could see her tail is full of eggs.

It seems each time we go down there it is something new. The water was clear and calm which made it great. No wind though so the heat was way up.

Nice mark!

I had no clue there were pistol's in Galveston. Keep us updated on the survivability of those eggs.

On a side note, hows your Galveston caught gobie doing? Mine is soon to be up for adoption or donation to a LFS. It's tunneling expeditions are driving me nutz.

My gobie has made a home in the bottom of a rock so he has not dug any in the sand. He eats like there is no tomorrow.

The pistol shrimp has picked out the same rock and has moved into a hole in the bottom of it. He had to dig out some sand to do it.

The hole goes into the rock which is open in the middle. So now the gobie looks to have moved in with him.

Maybe they will buddie up together. I'll post a pic of thier home later.

We were finding a lot of your favorite kind of pod also (the kind that like to snack on fish) you might have been lucky enough to take home a breeding pair if you had came.

There were a lot of interesting things we didn't bring home like these shiney jet black shiney rock crabs and the fish carcasses. I was thinking about bringing home some sea roaches because they are real cool. They look just like a roach but can climb in and out of the water. If would be neat if a couple of times each day I had roaches crawling out of my tank. With the crap they eat at the dike they'd probally be happy to forage through my left overs.

Speaking of disgusting things when you have a hundred pods writhing around in your hand they look just like something that eats the trash that got left out too long because it was holiday and the trash man didn't come.

These pods are more a shade of green than the ones I have in my tank we'll see how the cross breeding works.

How much time do you guys need in advance to take off a Saturday morning for a couple of hours.

I can still feel those pods crawling around on my hands. I keep looking at them thinking I will see pods.

I'm going to either go to the Dike or Galveston today to collect. I would like to get more pods while I can so easily. I put them in my tank and now my 6-line has a big fat belly. He went crazy zooming all around the rocks looking for them.

The 2 anemones are starting to open up and it looks like I will have a red one and a blue one. Will get pics when they settle in and open fully.

The pistol shrimp is setting up house real good now. He has a deep hole to live in through the hole in the rock

Here is a pic of the pistols house with the gobie on top of it.
