i have a shallow tank *17x17x13* and a maxi1200 as return, so i want to add more flow into the tank, should i go with K2 or K1? and what type of sand should i use? i dont want the powerheads to blow up all the sand lol... i like the superfine sand look but i know it will get blow up.

thank you guys in advance.

you really need to try several options to see what works best. i love koralias. they are cheaper than most pumps (tunze, seio, vortech, etc) but do a great job.

i'd recommend going with two smaller pumps for your setup. either two #1's or even two #2's. or, you could try a #1 and a #2. again, it's something you'll have to play around with. you could angle them just right and get all the flow you could ever ask for, but if you angle them in a different direction you could blow sand everywhere. another option is to get a few koralia nanos. just point them in all different directions.

Your dimensions come out to be about 16g.....I remember you saying that you wanted it to have a false wall....that would take up at least another gallon or two as well as space.

I am also guessing that 13 is your height, with that height you have little room between the sand and the pump.

Seeing that you want to have sand substrate the big K2's will probably blow the sand around which is what you stated you did not want.

I have 2xK2's in my 30g which is like 24" tall and the pumps are a few inches from the top and they moved a small amount of sand.

Do you have the tank already?

I would get one K1 first....position it different ways(probably towards the water surface) and have it settle.

After that has worked out I would see if you could double it and then add another. If it seems like a bit much flow already then just get a K.Nano and use it to add a more random flow through the tank.
