Since I have been selling off the contents of my tank, I have made an interesting discovery. I have a hitch hiking shrimp. I have never seen it before the other day, and I only saw it briefly. It looks to be a peacock mantis shrimp. My question is how can I lure it out to take it's picture? From the brief glimpse I got, I am pretty sure that is what I have, but I would really like to get a picture and post it here for opinions.
I am not selling any more live rock due to finding it in there either... sorry. At this point I am pretty nervous to even put my hand in the tank.
Thanks in advance.

Not sure on how to lure it out. But I will take it off your hands and try and help you catch it.

I need it for my refugium.

Let me know. I live right down from you at Texas City.

I would like to get a good look at it before I make plans to get rid of it. If it is a peacock mantis, as I am suspecting, I will probally keep it.

Get someone in the club to loan you a trap and put a piece of shrimp or frozen food in and wait. Do this after the lights are out at night and stand by close. Mantis can and will bust a hole in most traps and escape if left it too long.

My suggestion is to build a trap out of an old 2liter bottle. Cut the top off right where the curve of the top of the bottle begins to straighten. Invert the top and tape it down. Submerge the trap then drop a piece of raw shrimp in it. Lay it on the bottom preferrably near some rock work.

Unfortunately this does not always work. I battled a mants all last week and the trap did not work for me. Mine was extremely active and ran around my liverock all day. He had a little rock right up front with a hole he like to perch in. I stuck a fork in his face and he wasn't the least bit scared.

After 4 days of trying the trap, I ended up waiting for him to perch in the rock then yanked the rock out. Thankfully I got him and promptly sent him to fresh water heaven.

The trap doesnt always work but its worth a try

on another note, I did find some cirolanids stuck in the trap the first night I set it. I also managed to catch a couple large bristle worms. The worms I put back but as far as those bugs go...hopefully that was all of them.
