My tank is 48x24x24. Would the Reefbreeders Photon48 be to much light for my tank? I know they are adjustable, but wasn't sure if it is going to be to much. I am going to start out with some soft corals and maybe LPS later on.

The benefit of the photon is the controller and dimming. With softies and lps you can run it real low, but then have the flexibility to not have to change fixtures later on when you get sucked into sps.
All that for the price of a t5 and no need to replace bulbs. Check out reefcentral forum, think they are starting a group buy end of the week which will save you $50 or so.

I have the same size tank, and I'm using the Photon 48". I have an LPS dominated tank. I hung my lights about 10-12" above the tank, and run them at a maximum intensity of around 50%. Above that, my corals weren't opening as much as with my t5's, and a couple of them actually bleached. Now that I have them set "right", I'm very happy with them.

Let me know if you decide to get one. I can jot down my settings for the day and send them to you if you like.

Awesome, thanks for the quick replies. I just wanted to make sure before I dropped the cash on it. I'll look in to that group buy. Well I was going to ask how high to hang it next, but 50% @ 12 inches gives me an idea

Curious as to which led lay out you went with. The standard or custom. Looking at the 24 and getting in on the group buy as well. Thanks

I went with the standard layout. If I had it to do over again, I might put wider optics on the front and back row of led's to get get better coverage front to back in the tank. That said, just raising the whole light a bit accomplishes the same goal, and probably gives a more even distribution of the spectrum.

Omar, I'll post my settings after I get home tonight.

Here are my current settings. Again, this is for an LPS dominated tank. It's a 120 (48x24x24) with 48" Photon series Reefbreeder LED.

Link to this group buy possibly? I'm looking to ordering the photon 48" and it would be nice to get a little discount. Thanks.

Looks good. I've found that with those settings, my torch's, kenya tree, pipe organs, frogspawn, bubble, chalice, gsp, and monti's like it right up close to the lights. I've also found that I have to keep my scoli's, mushrooms, and fugia need to be low in the tank, or shaded by something else. Like I said in my post, those are the settings that work for me. I hope they work well for you also.

Enjoy,
Chris

Wow thats a really long fixture. My 24 came in as well. Got it ramping up to 30% and back down. Not quite as bright as I thought it would be during the daytime(fights with sun) but the colors are much better than what I had before.
