my leather rasta finally looks like its bitting the dust. it had a dead spot on it and when it was touched it came off. should i go ahead and remove it before it raises my nirates?

it hasnt been doing well since i changed to a wet/dry filter sometime last year. maybe six months back. i took it to lfs and it did better if his tank but not great wouldnt know what to frag. its about 4" with the base.
if anyone wants to try to rescue it or frag it your welcome to try.
i'm ready to throw it out and keep to rock its on. its a cool looking finger or branch looking thing. maybe try to get some star poylps on it.
