Hey everyone, I'm trying to put together a sump, skimmer and refug combo to replace my wet / dry and skimmer combo now.

Really, it started with just the skimmer.. I was thinking about getting an ASM, until I realized that this was a IN SUMP only style.. and I thought.. well, a sump couldnt hurt either, neither could a new return pump, something nice, adjustable and external to the sump...

So I'm trying to decide how to go about getting this sump...

The tank is a 90 tall, loads of live rock, few soft corals under pc lighting (which im also working on)

So.. should I buy a ready made sump... should I convert something like a 55 gallon tank? I have pretty much all the room in the world to work with and can locate the sump in the adjacent room.. but I just really have no idea where to start...

I know i would like to grow algea in the sump and I need room for the skimmer... can anyone start pointing me in the right direction?

Also, who locally sells this stuff towards the nw side of town.. I guess I could travel...

Any local vendors want to pitch in... I wouldnt mind doing business with businesses that do business with the local club

There is not much on the NW side. B&B on 1960 and perry, Aquatic World? on jones near 290, and aquarium world on 290 and tidwell-ish.

None of these come highly recommended in my opinion. they or just OK. For a sump, I would pick up a used tank and set it up how you'd like it, and it will save you money too.

Here's want I did with an old 40 gal.

I really dont have a set budget, however, I am always on the look out for savings when i can find em for sure..

The stuff is just so freakin confusing on the choices..

and limpet is right, the stores up here.. not the best..
I should open one to compete.. actually, that would be fun!

hmm.. i actually saw a website that makes acrylic sumps, refugiums, skimmers, and the like - basically whatever you can imagine putting in a sump. they were a little pricey tho, so i didn't bookmark it. i wish i had, since their pictures were nice examples of what you can do with the space under a tank. :( their designs seemed really spot on, and they took custom orders to fit the space available or to work with other companies' skimmers and pumps. if i can find that site, i'll post it here. i just need a spare hour before i can try.
