So I've been doing some research for fish to put in my 90g, after ruling out pretty much all tangs I came across the regal angel. I know what the risks are and how difficult it is to keep, but does anyone have any personal experience with them?

Did they eat any corals and if so which?
How long did you have it, did it die?
Any idea who would be able to get a good healthy specimen? Preferably the Red Sea variety about 3-4" long.

I know they will eat zoas, which I'm ok with not having due to the shape of my rock(BRS Pukani). I just don't know if I want an SPS only tank. I know it's hit or miss on clams and LPS. It is a cool looking fish though.

You might want to hit up Dennis (fjw). I know he has had some in the store but I can't remember which tank he had them in :)

I really like them as well. I am interested in hearing what feedback you get.

Not really no. I did check with Fish Fanatix, but he is unwilling to warranty the fish at all. I really want the fish, but I'm starting to debate whether I want to risk $100 on an iffy fish. That and it may be easier to be able to have whatever coral I want in the tank. I wish there was another nice colorful fish for a 90g, but as it stands now it may be a tomini tang.

Saltwater fish selection really sucks man. Either the fish is somewhat bland or it eats shrimp/corals/other fish/etc... That or it has a high mortality rate or both.

I talked to Dee at Fish Fanatix yesterday. He is getting me one in a week or 2. I never asked what his price was when he said he didn't warranty them. Fantastic price and he said the ones he got always do well and eat almost immediately.

We'll see how it goes I guess.

Get the Red Sea one which has a yellow belly, more hardier fish versus the Indo-Pacific (light color belly).

I got the Indo one from him 2 weeks ago. Great price indeed. Eating frozen foods off that bat. Not so much luck with pellets though. My friend has the Indo as well and doing just fine.

Oh and I have him in my frag tanks with zoas, acan, acros and a clam. So far no missing spots on any of the corals yet. The Clam is doing better than ever.
