I have the 5 stage Aquamaxx sold @ global.

I need to know what kind of cartridges I need.
What are the 3 that are screwed in from the bottom?
As far as I know, the white unit across the top is the RO Membrane and the little canister on the right with the orange color in it, is the DI Resin.
Correct me if I'm wrong please.
I am trying to find new cartridges and am reading things like 1 micron, 30 micron, 50 micron.. .I don't know what I need.
I guess I need a carbon block filter, and some kind of sediment filter, what is the 3rd one? I'm so confused.

Thanks for any info.

FMB,

What you are going to need is a sediment cartridge for the 1st stage, then you want to place a carbon block in the 2nd stage. What carbon block you use depends on if your water source contains chloramine. If it does you want to use a CAtalytic GAC block but if it doesn't then a standard carbon block will work. The 3rd stage of the Aquamaxx goes through the RO membrane on top of the unit then to the 4th stage (last canister on bottom). For the 3rd canister you want to use the mixed bed DI resin cartridge. If you have a TDS meter then I would use the non color changing DI resin. Hope that helped. BTW our sponsor BuckeyeFieldSupply carries all these cartridges and provides a member discount. I have ordered from him and will definitely order again.

What is the small container on the right side that has the orange colored stuff in it?

And I guess I'd have to have my water tested for chloramine then. Cuz I have no idea if its in my tap water.

RO - RO membrane
P - Presediment Filter
S - Sediment Cartridge
C - Carbon Block Cartridge
DI - mixed bed DI Resin Cartridge

Hope that helped. If you call your water supplier they should be able to tell you if they add chloramine to the water supply.

Does the Presediment filter need to be replaced along with the rest of them? Or can it be flushed out? And how did you get a picture of my RO unit, my garage is locked!

I have the same unit. I just take the presediment filter out and flush it out under the sink. and put it back in. I really don't think you need it but I'm sure it catches some junk. My presediment filter and sediment cartridge turn orange over time from all the rust in the piping as well. I got the photo from www.aquamaxx.com :)

I guess that is what lets them call it 5 stage instead of 4.

The catalytic GAC cartridge says its for use inline before the regular carbon block. But I can't run both, I would need a place for another cartridge right?
Or am I reading wrong?

If I'm changing my RO membrane to a 50 GPD from my current 100GPD, do I need to put any kind of flow restrictor in somewhere?
Right now, the hole unit is just hooked up to a hose outlet in my garage.

Bill - call your local water utility - they will be able to tell you if they add Chloramines to your water. You likely don't have to even deal with this issue.

Regarding going from a 50 gpd to a 100 gpd - you'll need to change your flow restirctor to do that. Cheap and easy to do.

FYI

I saw at Sam's Wholesale that they carry Ro/Di filters for cheap, It comes in a set that includes 2) prefilters, 2) 5 micron filters, and 1 carbon tube (the one for taste and odor). All of these filters are only 30$ I thought that was a good price. Let me know if anyone else is using these filters.

Thanks, Jason

Might be a good deal, might not. What's the chlorine capacity of the carbon? What's the pore size? What's the pore size on the sediment filters?
