A sad day for my wife and her family today. We found out around 8 pm or so that her grandfather passed away tonight. He was 86 years old and still got around great, so his death is kind of unexpected. He is survived by his wife and 12 children who are spread across the world (Texas, California, Norway, and the Phillipines). And it could not have come at a worse time as plane tickets are sky high in price right now and Christmas is here. My wife, her sister, her parents, and her aunts and uncles are having to buy last minute plane tickets to the Phillipines for the funeral. I'm saddened that I will probably not be able to spend Christmas with my wife or in-laws and that we'll probably be having to drop a couple grand on a single round trip plane ticket. Sorry to bring everyone down, but I had to get it off my chest. Thanks for listening.

OMG, did you say TWELVE children? Wow. That's impressive.
Sorry for your loss. :(

What a legacy and full life-86 years old and 12 children! Celebrate his life and enormous contribution to his family. It's only money and a 12/25 is a date that can be celebrated any day of the year.
He will be remembered every Christmas.
I'm sorry for your loss for both of you. Our love and prayers go out to your family.

Hi, Brandon.
I'm so sorry to hear about your wife's father. Please accept my condolences to you and her and her family.

The important thing is for your wife and her family to celebrate his life. I wish you could be there with her...

Steve

thanks everyone.

steve, it's actually my wife's grandfather who passed.

and i guess i could update:
my wife, her sister, and her father had to stay home and are not able to attend the funeral (obviously). the plane tickets to california were pretty much unattainable (both quantity and price). the tickets per person would have totaled $2500 and everyone would be scattered across a handful of flights. so, to keep it simple, my wife, her sister, and her father all decided to stay. i'm happy though i get to spend christmas with my wife.

Sorry to hear about your loss Brandon.

Glad that you get to spend Christmas with your wife though.

Also, I thought flights were free or discounted for funerals? Maybe not anymore?

Not to stray off topic, but have you been to Hobby lately?

They have removed all food eateries and such from the main part. For years we would walk in, go left, go upstairs to the food places before picking up my daughter.

A few nights ago we walked in and the stairs were gone, there was a wall there. So we went around to the right, up the stairs to the terminal and back around to the food court. It was blocked and if you didn't know better, you wold never have thought it was there in the first place.

So now Hobby is a cattle yard. You walk in, wait for your friends or family to get off plane, or dropped them off and then leave.

Talking about being non-user friendly.
