Can these two fish be kept together in the same tank? Right now my yellow tang who has been in the tank keeps going up to the sailfin tang and flaring his fins up then the sailfin does the same thing, I am going to setup another tank on the other side of the room and switch everytging over to that tank tomorrow, will this help them stop fighting since it will be like adding them at the same time to a different setup?

I have a 125G, I added a yellow tang almost 3 yrs ago. I added a sailfin tang almost 2 years ago, the sailfin tang is bigger. They still occasionally flare up against each other, mostly at feeding time but other than that they are ok with each other.
I think you just have to watch them and see if they don't go beyond the harmless face-off.

There are lots of discussions on the size of tank you should have for fish. A yellow tang is recommended for at least a 100 gallon and a sailfin a 180 gallon. This alone might be something for consideration when making fish purchases.

Fire123 this may be the reason your two fish have some of their "face-offs."

For those of you who have seen the video, watch out for the "Tang Police!" :D

Sure you want the biggest tank you can get but my tank seems peaceful enough.
The tangs flared up against each other maybe a few minutes a day but never made contact with their spikes. Out of a 24 hr day, I think it's a non-problem.

What's more important is if one beats the other up and causes injury to the other one or to make it stop eating.

You just have to watch the fish and act accordingly.

ie, others say false percula clown and black and white can get along.
In my 125G, with 4 RBTA, 2 pairs of clownfish could not get along. The B&W pair beat up on the female false percula for a week and I had to get rid of the B&W just 2 weeks ago.

Ok, thanks all for the help, they quit flaring at each other, I just moved everything over from my tank which was a short and wide 120g to a 120g long. And I stacked the rocks with lots of caves and holes for them to swim thoughout the back and front so they havnt been fighting
