FishLand on Westheimer has Red Sea in 200 gallon buckets for $44. It's not out though, you have to ask for it.

We're new to this -- Red Sea is what was recommended at the store where we bought our tank. Not a good choice?

I have used RedSea for years and never once had any kind of problems. As a matter of fact I have used about 20 buckets and can honestly say I have never lost one coral or noticed an unhappy coral or fish after a water change. When my chiller went out and my tank crashed a few months ago, I made 100 gals of salt water in about 30 min. and did a massive water change. I would never attempt that with any other salt.

Kent is the worst IMO. Everytime I have used Kent, I lost one or more SPS. The other salt makers are ok. Every salt maker claims to be the best. I would find something that doesn't burn your corals, that you can mix quickly if needed and stick with it. Red Sea meets these requirements for me.

Kent

I believe it was the CoralIfe Rep. at a apst MARSH meeting who informed us that Kent Marine was made by Instant Ocean.

Right, but they make it to Kent's specifications. It's just like the rep said Panasonic makes Coralife's Power Compact bulbs but to Coralife's specifiactions.

Kent and Instant Ocean are made at the same place by the same company but are not the same formulation.

Its a SW urban lengend that they are the same salt with different packaging. :D

I vote for Oceanic sea salt. I have been very impressed with it.

I also switched to Oceanic and have done 3 water changes with it and so far I am very impressed. Mixes very easily, and has good magnesium and calcium levels right out of the box.

I heard you can get it for $40 at Fish Land. I got it for $45 at Aquatic World, which is pretty good since it costs me $5 in tolls to go to any of the stores across town.

I've tried Kent and didn't like it. I've used IO for years. I mix it up and add it to the tank within 20 minutes of mixing and have noticed no negative results. Others may be just as good or better but IO works for me.

John isn't carrying the Crystal Sea Bioassy salt for the next 6months to a year.

I just came from T&T Pets and they have the 50gal Oceanic salt on sale for $10.99. I've never used this salt but I'm tempted at that price. What do you guys think of Oceanic?

Oceanic salt have very good parameter but it take more salt to make salt water compare to CS or IO. I can't made 200 gal salt water (SG 1.025) out of the 200 gal salt bucket.
