Thought I would share this..
I bought a 265 in pristine condition (well had holes drilled in PVC bottom) - but it had NO scratches..
Over the course of time I have somehow managed to put about 8 scratches (mostly in the front panel) Yes I am super clumsy apparently...
Well not to worry...
I purchased this
and this
Before I actually do this I need to practice some.. here is my 1st attempt on old 40g breeder.. it may not be the best example to show clarity as the inside is extremely scratched.. but what I was going for was:
1 - could I remove a scratch that catches a fingernail
2 - can I get all of the swirl marks out
3 - will there be good optical clarity once I am done..
I will practice on this tank a few more times and then I will try on a new 40 breeder to confirm #3..
I put this scratch on the outside panel with a carbide bit that I use to chamfer holes when I drill glass..
ouch that sucks, I scratched my aquarium..
Step 1- Scratch Removal
Step 2 - PrePolish
Getting to a uniform haze in the repair area
Step 3 - Polish..
I forgot take a pic of the polishing pad but basically its a felt pad that you damped with cerium oxide and water...
and here is the sequence for that..
Looks pretty clear to me... Start to finish took be about an hour (that was with intervals to let glass cool down).
IMO removing glass scratches is doable, with the correct tools, process and time..
If you would like to see a video of the process on a glass panel here ya go..
