SEASPACE 2004
June 5 & 6, 2004
Houston, Texas
Reliant Center

Is anyone going to this? It sounds really cool. I happened to see an ad for it on TV last night so I checked out the website http://seaspace.org/ Lots of cool stuff going on. Seminars, workshops, IMAX Coral Reef Adventure, etc. Looks like it focuses mainly on diving but there is a bunch of other things too. Underwater photography and macro photography (which would apply to us) seminars both days. Admission is $6 for adults I think.

From their website:
The Houston Underwater Club invites you to explore the world of exotic travel, adventure sports, and scuba diving, as the SEASPACE Exposition brings a world of fun, education and entertainment to the Reliant Center in Houston, Texas. Scheduled June 5 & 6, SEASPACE draws exhibitors, speakers and attendees from exotic destinations around the world. This year's highlights include a huge and diverse Exhibit hall hosted by a living mermaid; a Gallery of Underwater Photography presented by the Los Angeles Underwater Photo Society; and the exciting new IMAX film "Coral Reef Adventure."

SEASPACE is the Southwest USA’s premiere Adventure Exposition. With events for the entire family, you are invited to explore more than 200 booths with experts on various outdoor sports and exotic travel destinations. In its new expanded location at Reliant Center, SEASPACE 2004 adds to the fun with a big climbing wall and the addition of outdoor sports like kayaking, sailing and surfing. A huge swimming pool built into the Exhibit Hall enables visitors who come equipped with a swimsuit and towel to try out scuba diving, snorkeling, and a variety of paddle sports.

Most definitely

Oh yeah...I go every year, and have all the t-shirts 2 prove it.

I plan on going again this year, of course. I usually end up going by myself. I guess cuz it's more of a divers' venue, but being a diver and a reef-keeper, it's like home to me anyway...

If anyone wants to go I'll be there....it's AWESOME...even if you're not a diver, there's a lot of info on ocean creatures, a lot of conservation stuff, awesome films and seminars, it's pretty cool.

As diving is something I've been wanting to get into, maybe this is a good idea to go see what's available...

Y'all want to try and get a MARSH group together, go to the show and maybe dinner or something?

Sounds good....just let me know. Like I said, it would be nice to go with a group for once.

If you go to the Seaspace website you'll notice they have packages to buy, too. That $6 really gets you in to look around at everything, but the seminars and workshops and films all cost a little extra, so if you are interested in more than just walking around, it would be cheaper to buy a pkg, &/or get your tickets ahead of time. The schedule for both days for everything going on is on the website, so be sure to look at that first.

For me, I definitely want to go to the IMAX Coral Reef Adventure show, but that is actually going to be at the Houston Museum of Natural Science (HMNS). I also am interested in a couple of seminars, perhaps, and I always loving looking at the photo gallery and cruising the booths.

See, there are so many different things going on at the same time, and people will probably want to do different things, that we would have to coordinate our plans, and discuss what the schedule(s) would be. It might be good to carpool, and/or meet up there, then some go their separate ways, depending on who wants to do what, then meet back up at a certain time, maybe plan to meet up & go to the IMAX show at the HMNS together, or something.

It's already wkd. after this one, so we would have to start talking about who all wants to go, and get our tickets pretty soon. We can even buy them online, I think...I need to get back on the website and look today...

Oh, by the way, it's very family-oriented too. That big pool for trying out diving is for everyone, including very young kids. It's pretty cool. They also have a virtual dive for kids ages 5-12, where they can learn about ocean animals, and go on a treasure hunt throughout the expo, visiting different booths and things, and get a big goody bag for doing that.

So, it's not a boring expo for adults who all want to dive at expensive vacations....just thought I'd relay that to some of you who might not realize that... :)

Y'all missed out....as usual, I went by myself - Friday night, all day Saturday, and Sunday too.

Exhibits were great, they had tons of kids learning how to scubadive in the pool, as well as all kinds of other great activities for kids; a silent auction, door prizes, workshops and seminars, and the awesome Coral Reef Adventure IMAX movie. The movie was so great the audience gave the filmmakers a standing ovation when it was over. I highly recommend this movie to everyone. It is now showing at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. For more info, here's the site: http://www.hmns.org.

The seminars were great too. The last one I attended yesterday afternoon was real informative, and offered ways to become an ocean advocate.

Even though it was targeted more to divers, and not reefkeepers, if you love all things marine, you should have gone w/ me.

I have an awesome Seaspace shirt too now, w/ cool jellyfish on it :)
