Anyone ever use these? Suppose to provide a wider gentler flow at the same GPH.

From what I have heard and seen they aren't all that. I think there were some modifications you could do to them to make them a little better but don't quote me on that. If you do a search on reefcentral I'm sure you will find plenty of reviews and maybe some modifications for them.

Picked one up from Global last week - great pump. A fellow reefer has one and has had good luck with it. It is a redesigned RIO, but they seemed to have gotten this one right. The motor is new design.

The only drawbacks are that is not recommended to use with wave timer and John recommends installing a mounting screw if you are going to mount it like a Tunze. That is not really a problem - just drill a small hole in the mount and use one the plastic screws included with the pump. There must be a dozen ways to mount this thing when you take it out of the box, it comes with lots of spare mounting hardware included with it.

i liked the idea that it looks flatter so does not detract from the tank view as much -- I currently have Aquaclear 4000's and they are quite large and only pump 450gph

I have the larger model, its not bad. It has it's ups and downs. I like the fact that they do provide a gentler wider flow so you can place them near corals and it won't shoot them like a straight stream would. The different mounting options are nice also. I don't like the fact that they just don't have enough flow, even the bigger ones. In short it's a Tunze look a like but it will NEVER come close to the performance of the real thing.

But it also dont come near in the proce department -- so I guess it's a trade off. I figured to try one in the 75G and if it just isnt strong enough I can always move it to the 29G later.

I heard or read that they're not that effective after about 2' away from the pump (and that's the larger of the two models). On a 4' or 5' tank, though, they should do well.

Seios also use less electricity than a number of pumps.

I see that when you mount them like a Tunze, you can pivot the pump head horizontally. Does anyone know if it moves vertically too?

Yes it does. It has a ball mount on the bottom. I would say it can rotate 30 degrees up or down.

Good. I've been wanting to upgrade my current Maxi 1200s to Seios. Now I can justify the $55+ a piece for the them. Anyone know of a local place that sells them for under $60 each (the 820 model)? I usually try to give the local merchants a sale if the price is close.............

Try John at Global - I believe he has the 820 for under sixty...
