Esteemed Gang,

I am looking at a good/used Hydor skimmer, or a new bubble magus.

I've owned neither brand in the past.

It will be the skimmer for my 29g (30x18x13) tank. I am selling off the freshwater stuff, and going with salt.

Tank will be reefy, and will prob. house a dwarfy golden eel (Hawaii model). (Is it right to call them dwarf or pygmy, or just Little Eels? I dont want to get bit on my little finger if I've upset him. Hahahaha Ralphie May has polluted my mind)

I will hang my XL refugium on the back, and sink all of the equipment in there.

If you had either, which would you go with?

Thanks for the experienced input I'm about to be swamped with.

I have tried the hydor but the problem was when I had the skimmer running the bubbles would squeeze out of the housing and the collection cup. The cup sits in the body of the skimmer and held in place by a rubber o ring that goes around the bottom of the cup. As the skimmer would make bubbles the collection cup would pick itself up and let skim out of the body. Other than that it worked good just got irritated with skim exiting the skimmer.

I have heard good things about the reef octopus and I own a xp3000 external on my 180.

And no the hydor wasn't put o the 180....I have a 30 gallon which I run a tunze nano skimmer on but if I were to do it again I would try the reef octopus.

Hope this helps
