I tested my skimmer in my garage with the water from my tub that is holding live rock and it worked like a champ. Today I got the new tank and plumbing done so I filled it all with fresh water and ran a leak test. The skimmer isnt making half as many bubbles now...

After the test in the garage I broke it down and gave it a total cleaning..

that being said, is it making less bubbles because of the fresh water or because I screwed up when I put it back together???

Thanks for the help

By fresh water do you mean new salt water? The skimmer shoud be producing less skimmate (possibly none) is freshly mixed saltwater, but the number of bubbles should not be affected.

Thanks guys,

Ya I knew it wouldnt "skim" or "work" on freshwater but I just wanted to make sure that the appearance of less bubbles and huge bubbles was normal for freshwater... like I said I was just testing for leaks and noticed this. Wanted to make sure I didnt have something to fix before the saltwater goes in.

Thanks again for the help peoples
