OK what are some skimmers that i should avoid when looking to buy one and what are some that have good reputations. I guess i really just want to know what to avoid.

amiracle and to a lesser extent seaclones are ones to keep away from. some people manage well enough with seaclones. this all is just what i've heard though.

for cheap skimmers, you get what you pay for (not a lot). frankly, dropping $250+ for a good skimmer is one of the best investments you could make. euroreefs are good. here's a site to some 'blemished' ones. i'd get one if i needed a new skimmer, 'cause i don't care if it's got a scratch on it. not like i'll ever take it backpacking in the woods or anything.

decide on how much you plan on spendin up front and be realistic. IMO a good skimmer is an important piece of your tank puzzle.
How bigs your tank? do you have a sump, whats you stockin load.
AS mentioned by Cparka you get what you pay for, seaclones, and many of the $100 or less skimmer are ineffective and just make bubbles, I have seen some Jebo copies that appeared to work sufficently but i'm not sure about Jebo in gneral.
If you have a sump consider skimmers like euroreefs, deltec, ASM, if you want the best of th ebest consider a beckettheaded skimmer like precisionmarines bullet series. Just remember that big skimmers often require a dedicated pump, so figure that cost in as well.

I am very happy with the skimmer ReefALot built for my tank! Without knowing what tank size and how it is set up it is hard to advise you on what might work best for you......

I also purchased my protein Skimmer from REEFALOT and I can honestly
say that it's the best skimmer I've had so far. It does an awesome job skimming. :)

Im using a seaclone that has been modded and I did a few mods myself and im pulling about a cup every few days. And im very happy with it but if you want somthing ready to run I wouldnt suggest it there are some obvious flaws in the design. But with a little work its a very good skimmer.

Thanks you guys for the kind words.

I have some standard size skimmer or I can custom build skimmer to fit you stand, Check out my site www.aquaticimagesystem.com. Alot of member have my skimmer running on their tank and they sure are happy with it. Also I have alot different type of bracket like Maxi Jet power head, Tunze (verticle glass mount and side mount for euro brace flush to the tank unlike the original bracket) and float switch.
