I recently got back from a trip to the great barrier reef. It was the trip of a lifetime and finally inspired me to get my tank up and running. I rented an underwater camera and took tons of pictures. Here are lots of pics...and I do mean lots!

Very, very nice. I had the chance to snorkel around Key West last yr, but The Barrier Reef would be the ultimate.
Thanks for sharing!

My first ever scuba diving trip was on the Great Barrier Reef, just off of Port Douglas/Cairns.

I think you get better pictures snorkeling.

Neat!

That's definitely true....I had a head congestion so I couldn't go scuba diving, but I let my brother take the camera with him scuba diving. He got some great pics, but definitely not as colorful as you use so much light going that deep.....he did however get some cool creatures that I didn't get to see. I will post his pics as well later this week. The one advantage you have scuba diving is that you can stay totally still while you take a picture, so it's easier to stay in focus. I was getting tossed around in the waves trying to keep the camera as still as possible, but it was very difficult.

What kind of camera were you using? We snorkeled in Cozumel and my pictures didn't come out nearly as nice. Australia is on the top of my list and when I go I want an awesome camera. Beautiful!!!!

I rented a Canon PowerShot A720IS. It has a mode specific for underwater shots. It also helped that the reef is so close to the top of the water and the sun was shining. Not all of the shots turned out great...but I only posted the good ones

Looks like you are snorkeling in an aquarium! I would have been hyperventilating the whole time. Actually, I kinda always do when snorkeling. I freak out listening to myself breathe.
Marvelous pics, thanks for sharing.
